The National Transition Event – A Green Agenda (sustainability statement).

  • This year’s theme centres around climate change, and the vocational opportunities that it presents.

  • Held at the state-of-the-art conference centre, ‘The Wing’ has recently been awarded ‘The International Conference and Exhibition Centre Green Accreditation Badge’.

  • Attendees offered the chance to experience and learn more about EV technology as the automotive industry embraces new and exciting technology developed to help reduce carbon emissions.

  • The Mission Renewable Hall, showcasing ‘green jobs’ sees over 30 companies from industry participate.

The National Transition Event (NTE), an annual event hosted by Mission Motorsport, The Forces’ Motorsport Charity, has a green agenda in 2023, concentrating on climate change, sustainability, and the opportunities these create for Service Leavers, Veterans and Military Spouses as they seek careers beyond the military.

Hosting over 140 charities and support agencies, Government departments and employers from the automotive and renewable sectors, and beyond, the NTE expects to welcome over 1,000 service leavers, veterans and military spouses to Silverstone. The event’s purpose – to network, discover and understand the amazing and varied career opportunities open to them, and the support and assistance available.

Working collaboratively to minimise the climatic impact of the event, we’re thrilled to be partnering with several key organisations:

Silverstone Circuit

Home to the NTE and British motorsport, Silverstone announced its sustainability strategy, ‘Shifting to Zero’ in 2022. To date Silverstone has installed 2,764 solar panels on the roof top of the state-of-the-art conference centre, which provides 13% of the venue’s power.  Other initiatives include the use of HVO bio fuels (which powers the state-of-the-art conference centre) reducing emission by up to 90%, and the installation of over 30 EV charging points across the site.

Mission Renewable

The Armed Forces Initiative for the renewable energy sector, Mission Renewable launched in 2022 to help the renewable sector harness the opportunity for skills migration from the veteran community into meaningful, green jobs in the industry whilst addressing the transitional needs of service leavers.

Working closely with companies in offshore wind, solar power and deep geothermal energy industries, the work of Mission Renewable is collaborative with RenewableUK, the UK's leading not for profit renewable energy trade association.

Heading up the renewable energy hall at the event, Mission Renewable will be joined by over thirty companies from this exciting and rapidly growing industry.  An industry experiencing exponential growth, the offshore wind industry sector alone is creating 27,000 jobs by 2030.

Mission Automotive

Launched in 2019, Mission Automotive is the Armed Forces engagement initiative for the UK’s automotive industry.  Delivered by Mission Motorsport – The Forces Motorsport Charity and with the support of the Ministry of Defence, Mission Automotive works in partnership with The Royal Foundation and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The UK automotive industry is one of the UK’s largest employers and is changing at pace.  The march towards the manufacture of electric vehicles is at the top of the agenda for Mission Automotive partners, including Jaguar Land Rover and Stellantis, all of whom are attending the NTE.  According to The IMI, the number of qualified EV technicians required to work with electric vehicles is set to rise to 77,000 in 2030, increasing to 89,000 by 2032

Earlier this year Jaguar Land Rover announced a global upskilling drive in a bid to train 29,000 people in the next three years for its connected and data capabilities, and to support the rapid transition to electrification.

With a comprehensive electrification strategy to deliver class leading vehicles across its iconic brands, Stellantis intends to become the market leader in low emission vehicles (LEV), targeting over 70% of sales in Europe to be LEV by 2030.  Allowing attendees to experience the latest EV technology, Stellantis will be providing free EV Ride & Drive experiences throughout the day.

In line with this year’s theme, the NTE has been organised as sustainably and economically as possible.  Measures include a paperless registration system, an online event guide and the offer of shared transportation for attendees to reduce the event’s carbon footprint.
